WARNING:  SPOILER ALERT!!!!!
If you haven't read the story yet, go and do so before you read on!!!

THE MIGHTY WURLITZER !

This is the Mighty Wurltizer Organ at the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool - not entirely dissimilar to the one which makes an appearance in the story.  All over the country, fantastic instruments like this are still being played on a regular basis by enthusiasts. Many were 'rescued' from their original homes as older cinemas became bingo halls or were demolished all together.  As a result, you can come across some impressive cinema organs in the most unlikely of places...

http://www.netoa.org.uk/ will take you to the unlikely location of Witton le Wear in County Durham where a former Methodist chapel now houses the organ from the Victoria Cinema in Bradford.  The background and history pages are fascinating... This isn't too far away from me so I'm hoping to visit it in the Spring, maybe on one of their cream tea weekends!

http://www.trocadero-wurlitzer.org/ takes you to the pages of the Trocadero Wurlitzer Trust who are raising money to restore the Wurlitzer from the Trocadero at the Elephant and Castle in London.  They are hoping to install it in Stepney.  (I'm sending a small donation as a thank you because I had lots of fun researching on their website!)
You can also LISTEN TO THE WURLITZER!
If you follow this link http://www.trocadero-wurlitzer.org/listen%20to/listen2.html  and then go to the second sample, marked 'Robert Woolf medley' you'll hear something which approximates to the sound of Grouse's playing... (Haven't yet found his encore number on a Wurltizer, but I'm still looking...)

The Organist Entertains is BBC Radio 2's long-running organ music programme, introduced by Nigel Ogden.  Check out the website:
